Verifone Software Updates
A software certificate contained in the following terminals expired on October 19, 2015. Earlier this year, we made an update available for service providers to.
URGENT NOTICE Optimum PCI PIN Transaction Security (PTS) 1.3-version devices (originally known as PCI PED 1.3 devices) utilize Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) validation that will expire as of October 19, 2015. A software update is currently undergoing testing.
Upon completion of testing, the update will be made available, and merchants will need to apply the update to these terminals in order for them to continue operating past the October 19, 2015 certificate expiration date. The required software update is expected to be available in certain regions during the 2nd half of June.
There will be no licensing fee for obtaining the update. Updating an entire estate may take a considerable amount of time.

Therefore, immediately beginning the process as soon as the updates are available is strongly recommended. • It is critical for partners and resellers to contact their Verifone relationship manager to check the status of the upgrade availability for their region. These systems were originally developed by Hypercom Corp., and subsequently distributed through Verifone, Equinox Payments (Hypercom USA) and Spire Payments (Hypercom Spain & Hypercom UK). Merchants, banks, acquirers, ISOs and resellers are urged to review and update their customer lists and terminal estate management policies and procedures to ensure this update is implemented prior to the certificate expiration date. The impacted devices must be updated or replaced prior to the certification validation date to ensure continued operation. If these devices are not updated by October 19, 2015, they will cease to function after the next power off/power on cycle; updating these terminals after October 19th may not be possible. Service and terminal security are an issue for these legacy devices, particularly because PCI PTS standards have evolved since the devices were issued, and PCI PTS 1.3 approval expired April 30, 2014.
Therefore, merchants should upgrade their terminals to ensure maximum device security and service. Likewise, banks, acquirers, ISOs and resellers should encourage merchants to do the same. Verifone is communicating with clients and third-party channel partners (Banks, acquirers, ISOs and resellers) to ensure this issue is communicated and acted upon in advance, so that continued merchant operations are not adversely impacted.
