Enable Rdp Vista Home Sp2
Both the desktop and the laptop are behind a wireless router and trend micro firewall.Im still looking at logmein. What do you think about this? I found a patch for home premium here: Now can some of you explain the directions for using it? I D/L it, now how to extract it to a temp directory and the command prompt things well as the port thing? Here are the directions?
Recently upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate, specifically to enable Remote Desktop. Attempting to connect from XP Pro sp2 with RDP 6.1 fails. Enable Remote Desktop Connection on Vista Home Premium. Steps to Add Remote Desktop to Vista Home Premium: 1. Now there’s also a version for SP2.
Download termsrv. Heavy Metal Magazine 260 Pdf Download. zip here 2. Extract Termsrv.zip to a temp directory 3. Start Command Prompt in Administrator mode (Run As Administrator) 4. Run the corresponding batch file for your Vista edition 5. Allow TCP Port 3389 on Windows Firewall or any other firewall product.
To clear up any confusion there may be, Home Premium does have Remote Desktop that you can use to remote OUT with to any Windows version that supports it, no problem, the stickler is when you try to remote INTO a home premium system; then its a no go, unless you use the hack you found apparently. To extract just make a temp folder of your own, put the zip file in it and right click extract. You should be able to just click ok, ok, ok and the files will be extracted to the same folder. Then start a command window and run the corresponding batch file that matches your system and hope it works.
If you go to your Firewall settings and under the exceptions tab you can enable/configure a port. You'd have to perform a similar action for whatever other firewall if present and to connect over the internet you'd have to port forward the same port in the router/modem. Personally, I am always a little worried about things like this.
Espeicailly so call patched dll's, and when it comes to the terminal services dll. You might want to reconsider. After researching a bit, it appears that someone over at TheGreenButton hacked this DLL to work for home premium, which I was not aware needed patching for the RDC to work.
With that said, and as I am not a programer and I can't read or understand Hex Editing in a DLL, I would not be the one to verify that the patched (HEX Edited) DLL would not or doesn't allow the system to be compromised. And if MS Updates ever decided to patch the termsrv.dll file, well you will ahve to reapply the patch again unless the update fixes the apprent issue with RDC connetions not working in Vista Home Premium. Personally, I'ld go with logmein, it does work, can be flakey, but it does work. For further info,,, here is the link to what and how the termsrv.dll is being patched.
